I always love a food adventure. In fact, I love to search for top local spots for various foods. Last summer, my obsession was to find San Diego’s best acai bowls. My acai adventures created great opportunities to meet up with friends and explore all areas of our local community. When friends and family find out about my adventures, they often help me find new restaurants to explore. It’s an exciting life that us foodies lead!
Next up: Best Dollar Oyster Spots!
Most recently, I’ve been on the search for San Diego’s best Dollar Oyster Nights! My new found obsession has given me several opportunities to sample oysters while making memories with friends and family. AND again, my friends are tipping me off to dollar oyster spots throughout San Diego county. I have two requirements for my spectacular search: 1) The oysters must be exceedingly fresh. 2) The atmosphere and service must be unique, happy, and fun.
Here are my 3 favorite locations, in no particular order:
Located in La Jolla, Herringbone is the brainchild of famed Chef Brian Malarkey. You may have seen Chef Malarkey on Top Chef or numerous other television shows. However, it’s Herringbone’s dollar oyster hours that first brought me into the restaurant. It was during a dollar oyster outing that I fell in love with the ambience and décor. Sitting under trees lined in lights and candles sprinkled throughout the restaurant, oyster hour is perfect for date night. Herringbone uses farm fresh ingredients and has a happy hour menu that is also a fun setup for girls night out.
Herringbone’s Oyster Hour: 4-6 p.m. daily & all night Monday
A casual fish shop known well by locals, dollar night is always hopping. Be sure to get there early because the oysters are only available until they are sold out! Early birds might also be lucky enough to grab a spot by the cozy outdoor fire. If you decide to have a moms night out, grab a bottle of wine to bring along! There is no corkage fee at the PB Fish Shop! Of course, dollar oyster night makes for a perfect reason to try a few tasters of the 50 local microbrew beers also available on site.
Pacific Beach Fish Shop Oyster Night: Thursdays starting at 4 p.m., until they run out!
Ironside Fish and Oyster
Located on the busy streets of Little Italy, Ironside just might be a hipster’s paradise. Dress up or down, the restaurant is frequently hopping and includes an eclectic flair with excellent service. BUT THOSE OYSTERS! Quite possibly my favorite in all of San Diego; so juicy, fresh, and plump. Meet the girls for happy hour, order a classic cocktail, and you have the makings for a fantastic night out!
Ironside Happy Hour: Monday-Friday, 3-6 p.m.
Love this place!! Great energy at all times and the food to pair it with! I love how you can create the dish you are currently craving. I love bringing anyone who hasn’t been here before and enjoys seafood!
Thanks for reading The San Diego Plumber!
