Mom Hacks : Kitchen, Laundry and Kid’s Room Edition

I’ve yet to meet a mom who doesn’t like to do a few less dishes, sleep a few minutes longer, add efficiency and convenience to their day all while saving money at the same time. If you like mom hacks, read on for a list of a few of ours.

“I like to double layer my kids bedding starting even from crib days. I always put on a waterproof mattress protector then a sheet, then another protector and another sheet. That way if we ever had accidents, diaper leaks etc. in the middle of the night I just had to pull off the top layer rather than change the sheets completely ” –Brittany

I save myself time and a few more dishes by “cutting grapes”- biting them in half and dropping them into a bowl for my son. He’s too young to know and care that they’ve been in my mouth first.

Elisabeth uses sheets packaging and turns it into a sensory play and counting tool. “It has a sleeve where the photo of the sheets was in the front so I slip a number into it and then we count that many balls into it. Zippers, opening & closing, take in – take out, the fun is endless! Haha. ”  Krystal loves these for storing kids toys in.

I cut up old plain t-shirts and use those as wipes at home for #1 diapers. This has saved me loads on disposable wipes. You can find a recipe for cloth wipe spray here.

The pouch crib sheets come in works great for packing an extra outfit in to keep in a diaper bag. I’m always prepared for a messy lunch, spills or the dreaded diaper blowout.

“I boil eggs and beets at the same time. Eggs are 20 minutes, then remove from water. Bounce them a little in a big bowl or pot to crack and loosen shells. Cool in water and ice, then remove shells. The beets are around 45 minutes or until fork goes in easily. Use a carrot peeler when cool to easily remove outer skin.”   – Lori

Krystal has her kids trade furniture when one outgrows something. It works out great because each kid gets something new and it doesn’t cost a thing.

She also saves sauce jars and uses them for homemade salsas, salads, overnight oats and sugar scrubs.
