If you’re like me, every January gets me thinking about things I can change for the new year.
Bad habits I want to break, things I want to improve on, goals I want to set. All my imperfections begin to stare me in the face and immediately I have a list of my “New Year’s Resolutions.” These resolutions start off amazing. On January first my house is spotless, I am eating clean (it’s only been a day but I’m feeling GREAT!) and I’ve done my daily workout.
By February first, not only are these resolutions completely off my radar, (Ok, let’s be honest… January 15th!) but now I feel like I have FAILED miserably; the vicious cycle of all my faults and failures as a mom, friend, homemaker, wife, etc. have all come full circle.
So, this year I decided to do something different. Instead of making a list of all of my life changes, hopes and dreams, I decided to pick ONE WORD. This one word will be my entire focus for the entire year. With each new challenge, goal, and vision, I will focus on my WORD: How does this word help me achieve my goal? How does my word help me through this challenge? How can I utilize my word to make me a better mom, wife and friend?
The process of choosing a word over writing a list of resolutions bestows clarity by taking all of your aspirations and dreams for your “perfect life”, and narrows them down into a single focus. A word that will help you reflect on your character and creates a vision for your future and for your family.
My one word for 2018 is SIMPLIFY.
So many things in my life right now require my attention and I feel like for me to be my best self, everything goes back to me simplifying. Whether it be simplifying my home, my time, or just saying NO to things to simplify my busy schedule. For me, in 2018 I will look to my word “simplify” to help me focus on my small daily goals and my character.
Will you lose your list this year and join me by choosing your one word? What word will you choose for 2018? Let us know in the comments below!
And HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I love it!!!!!
De-clutter is my word for 2018.
De-clutter my house of stuff I don’t need or want anymore.
De-clutter my mind of thoughts that are not productive.
De-clutter my calendar with stuff I don’t want to do or I am not passionate about.
De-clutter my life of people who cause me more negative than positive feelings.
Wow! That felt good to get it out. Now, to make it happen!!!
