Chances are when you were a kid you looked forward to summer break. As an adult it can be a challenge; you’re relieved of the pressures of drop offs and pick ups, but you gain the responsibility of finding family-friendly activities throughout the week, the costs of which can quickly add up. Luckily, many businesses and organizations in Temecula recognize the need and have moved to fill in the gaps with great summer activities. One of the easiest ways to stay on top of local events is to check out the “Events” tab on Facebook, where a majority of these events are listed.
$1 Movies
Edwards at the Promenade
Head to the mall and cool off with a $1 movie. Although movies are a popular draw for free summer activities, the fact that these movies play during the week is a great draw. The movies begin at 10:00 am and other participating Edwards and Regal locations include Oceanside, San Marcos, and Corona.
Reading Murrieta Cal Oaks
Yet another opportunity for parents in Murrieta and North Temecula to beat the heat and entertain the kids with a big day out on the cheap. Reading offers fewer movie options but is still worth a look! Find their summer program here, including $1 movies and “Crybaby Matinee” showings for parents with small children.
Family Movie Nights
Family Movie Nights are by far the most popular free thing to do this summer and are largely located in South Temecula and in Wine Country:
Movies Under the Stars at Vitagliano Vineyards & Winery
Family Movie Night at Vail Headquarters
Family Movie Night Europa Winery
Friday Night Bonfires at Long Shadow Ranch
Read a Book!
Temecula Public Library
The city’s main library location on Pauba Road has an amazing children’s library section with a wealth of activities throughout the summer. This summer’s theme is “Reading Takes You Everywhere,” centering its summer activities on travel, geography, and embracing the cultures of the world. Check out their Facebook page and the Events tab.
PJ Storytime at Barnes and Noble
Every Friday Barnes and Noble hosts a free pajama storytime and craft activity in their children’s book section. The event is recurring and begins at 7:00 pm.
U-Pick Berries
When in doubt, visit the Margarita Splash Pad or grab a shave ice at my daughter’s favorite place in Temecula, Hokulia; a little sugar and unstructured play never hurt anyone.
Are there any other free or low-cost things to do around town this summer?
