Saint John School—A Community of Faith, Knowledge, and Service

0

For sixty years, Saint John School in the beautiful seaside town of Encinitas has been educating students in Pre-K through eighth grade in a caring and faith-filled community. Our children are challenged in a rigorous learning environment to achieve at their highest academic level, grow in their faith, and serve others. At Saint John School, we develop the leaders of tomorrow through innovation and the dedication of our professional staff. As a community, we believe that we must do more than give our students the academic tools they need. We must also give them the opportunity to utilize and apply that knowledge in both their school experiences and in the greater world around them.

Developing our students’ leadership abilities begins with the Schoolwide Learning Expectations. Graduates of Saint John School are expected to be faith-filled, active lifelong learners, and responsible citizens. Students’ growth and development in these areas are continually monitored from kindergarten through eighth grade. This culminates through graduation portfolio presentations that give students an opportunity to share with the community what they have learned and how it will help them in their future.

The Educational Foundation to Lead

Students at all age levels are given the opportunities and knowledge to develop their leadership abilities. Whether speaking to an all-school assembly, reading before the church congregation, teaching a class to first grade students, or developing a service project from start to finish, Saint John School students are given the educational foundation, taught the necessary skills, and given an opportunity to make a positive impact in the school, local community, and the world around them.

Our innovative and nationally recognized Faith in Action program is one such way our students develop their leadership skills. Sixth through eighth grade students begin by attending classes specifically designed to explore stewardship ideas and opportunities and how they relate to our faith. They are given instruction, develop specific skills, and cultivate resources to pursue their chosen service projects. Those students then develop relationships and teach our younger students about the importance of stewardship and faith. It culminates in service projects, both great and small, designed to help those in need.

Over the years, Saint John students have helped finance a library in Burundi, provided lunches to the homeless in San Diego, purchased and delivered education materials for students in Mexico, assisted at Father Joes’ Village, volunteered to help the disabled in athletic events, and grown vegetables for our local food bank, just to name a few.
