Ramona—A Hidden Gem

0

Whether you take the 67N, drive up Wildcat Canyon Road or use the 78 East, Ramona is sure to please. Ramona has a small hometown feel with a big city heart. Nestled amongst mountains and wide open spaces, this town is a hidden gem. These are just 10 of the reasons why I fell in love with Ramona.

1. Wineries – Did somebody say wine? Most people don’t know this, but there are over 20 wineries in Ramona. Beautiful views and award-winning wines make Ramona’s wine country one that should not be overlooked. Click here for a map of Ramona wineries.

2. Barona Casino and Resort – Award-winning restaurants, an over-the-top buffet, and the loosest slots make Barona the casino to visit! Find out more here.

3. Barona Speedway – If fast is your speed, then Barona Speedway is for you. Hold onto your seats as you watch races for Street Stocks, Pony Stocks, Pure Stocks, IMCA Mods, Mini Dwarfs and Jr. sprints and even some So Cal Mowers. Check out the website for more details.

4. Mt Woodson Hike to Potato Chip Rock – I know we’ve all seen the pictures. The infamous potato chip rock that people take carefully thought-out pictures on. Even those that do not hike will hike for the potato chip. There are two trails to the potato chip, the Poway side and Ramona side. The Ramona side is just a little ol’ 4.1 mile, paved hike. Easy peasy. But be prepared to wait for a picture on the chip, especially if you go on the weekends.

5. Cedar Creak Falls Trail – Famous for its waterfall and views, Cedar Creek Falls is worth the 5 mile roundtrip hike. Located at 15519 Thornbush Rd in Ramona, permits are required to make the journey. Get your permit here.

6. Mt. Woodson Golf Club, San Vicente Golf Resort, Barona Creek Golf Club – Natural landscapes and beautiful scenic courses are a golfer’s dream. Don’t pass up the chance to play at any one of these courses. You won’t regret it.

7. Summer Concerts in the Park at Ramona Oaks Park – Nothing says summer like listening to live music on a warm summer night under the stars. Bring your own chairs or blankets and enjoy the company of a great community.

8. Oasis Camel Dairy – Who doesn’t love camels? Visit Oasis Camel Dairy farm to find some rare camel milk soap and skincare products. While you’re there, spend some time with camels, up close and personal.

9. Antique Shops on Main Street – If antique shopping is your thing, then Ramona’s antique shops on Main Street will not disappoint.

10. Ramona Mainstage – Operating now as a performing arts facility, Ramona Mainstage has a calendar full of live entertainment and music and much, much more. Having first opened its doors back in 1947, Ramona Mainstage is a Ramona treasure. Click here for the Ramona Mainstage calendar.
