Plan Your Own San Diego Girls’ Getaway

Celebrating your birthday as a parent can be tough. Coordinating childcare, schedules, and just getting out the door can seem like a pipe dream. Fortunately, thanks to grandparents, partners, uncles, and aunts, my girlfriends and I have managed to carve out some time for a birthday getaway in San Diego for my birthday in April. Here’s what we’re looking forward to:

Stay

We’ll be concentrating on North Park and the surrounding areas, so we’ve decided to stay at The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows. We found a great deal on Groupon, but if you’d rather book direct, most businesses will match the Groupon rates if you give them a call. In addition to the great location, two big draws for us were the two drink tickets a day for each person and the four-person occupancy rule; there happens to be four of us, so having the occupancy set at four saves us a decent amount of money compared to other hotels I considered.

We’ve been dying to get to Artelexia and Pigment as a group, so those are first on our list. I expect that the rest of the day will be filled with pools, food, drinks, and aimless wandering around town. While I usually like to use Google Maps to keep track of points of interest (check out my how-to guide here), for this getaway I think we’ll play it by ear.

Have any suggestions? Let me know in the comments!

Eat & Drink

Venissimo Cheese is going to be a must for our group of semi-to-fully lactose intolerant party animals | 3007 University Ave.

Holy Matcha & Communal Coffee: for the ‘gram, mostly. Coffee is a huge plus for me; matcha will be a plus for the non-coffee drinkers amongst us | 3118 University Ave. & 2335 University Ave.

-Although it’s not in North Park, we’ll probably be calling a Lyft to head to Puesto at the Headquarters (Embarcadero) for birthday dinner. The tacos are ALWAYS on point (RIP to my perfect potato tacos) and the house salsa is amazing | 789 W Harbor Dr, Suite 155

-After dinner, we’ll head to the Little Italy location of Extraordinary Desserts. It’s not like any other bakery that I’ve been to in San Diego and I’d love to be able to sit down with a strong coffee and a nice dessert with my girls. |  1430 Union St.

Planning ahead is key to making things happen so don’t be afraid to claim a day and make it happen! Life can be tough (so are we), but it’s ALWAYS a great idea to get out with your friends to celebrate.

Do you live in North Park and have any suggestions for daytime activities? Have an idea for four or five thirty-somethings?

I’d love to hear what you have to say!
