I recently did a ‘mommy and me’ photoshoot with the fabulous Geena Crawford, owner of Geena Crawford Photography. If you are in the market for a photographer that specializes in family, maternity and children – Geena is your gal!
You can’t tell from the photos, but Kaia had a major meltdown on the way to meeting Geena at Mission Trails, which is an incredible site for family shots. She then fell on the walk to the first spot we took photos (skinned her knee!) and mind you this was during the mega heatwave we had a few months back.
When you look at the photos Geena captured from that day, you wouldn’t have known there was sweat, blood or tears.
This is what really got my mind turning on what makes a great photographer. Obviously quality work goes unsaid, but I think there are three additional key factors that every family-focused photographer needs — and Geena has them all!
Here are three reasons why I LOVED working with Geena:
- She is incredibly patient. Geena was patient, kind, incredibly empathetic, and able to connect with Kaia in ways that I am not sure other photographers could have (in that moment at least).
- She is authentic. The person you meet in real life is the person she is on social media and online. In this day and age that is hard to come by.
- She is creative. As moms, being in front of the camera isn’t always a natural space for us. So it is important to find someone that guides you through the creative side of preparing and executing the shoot (location/set, dress, how to pose naturally, etc).
There are so many talented photographers that produce great work that finding someone who is authentic, patient, talented and creative just makes the entire experience worth every penny!
