Easter at Home

6 ways to bring Easter to your home this year

  1. Decorate your home. Get into the Easter spirit and liven up your space. Target runs are a distant memory, so just use what you have. Paper and markers? Great! Cut out some basic shapes like Easter eggs or bunny ears. Have the kids decorate the cutouts, then tape them up to display in your window. Your kiddos will be proud to show off their creations, plus you are spreading joy amongst passing neighbors. Have you heard of #ChalkyourWalk? Lots of families are getting out to decorate their sidewalks during this unique time, to cheer up those walking the neighborhoods; just another way to “decorate” and get into the spirit!

2. Learn about Easter. What are we celebrating, anyway!? Minno is an online tool for families to grow in faith through fun weekly episodes, from worship songs to Bible verses, off-screen activities and more. They are currently offering a FREE trial week, with 5-minute daily Easter Week videos available to watch as you learn about the significance of each day leading up to Easter (the day Jesus rose from the grave!) What an appropriate message of hope during this unique, and sometimes dark, time in our life. www.Gominno.com

  1. “Zoom” your Easter egg hunt! Since we won’t be able to have Grandma and Granddad running around the backyard with us this year, we will make sure everyone is involved by creating a “Zoom” video chat call with those we love, so that they can watch the kids as they find their eggs. Zoom is a leading video communication tool that offers free video calls up to 40 minutes per session. Additional plans available. www.zoom.us
  2. Tune into virtual Easter service. Get dressed in your Sunday best and watch an Easter service online. Various services are streaming, worldwide, including San Diego’s Rock Church services with a plethora of options to tune in live: 8AM, 10AM, 12PM, 2PM, 4PM and 6PM. sdrock.com “The Rock Church is a particularly outward facing church—a movement of people committed to taking the Gospel into every street, and to every person, so we can show the world that no matter where one finds themselves, Jesus is the hope they long for.”
  3. Easter to Go. This year, grocery store runs aren’t so easy and fine dining or brunching out is out of the question. Luckily, the National Pork Board is encouraging Easter to Go by offering a chance to win a $100 gift card to the restaurant you choose to get your Easter meal from this year. Whether you are looking to avoid the kitchen or can’t add another thing to your week, you can still gather your family around the table this Easter to celebrate and create a moment of levity. Buying your Easter dinner to go is not only an easy option but is a great way to support your local restaurants. To enter, share how you are celebrating #EasterToGo on Instagram for a chance to win a $100 gift card back to that restaurant! Be sure to tag @NationalPorkBoard. Contest lasts 4/11-4/13.
  4. Get your neighbors involved! Write a letter to your neighbors, introduce yourself if they don’t know you already, and invite everyone to come outside to their front porch or sidewalk to wave to each other or introduce yourself to each other (from a safe distance of course) at a time of your choosing. This year, I dropped off a letter to each resident on our block inviting them to come out at 5PM. Everyone is excited to see each other and it’s something to look forward to. It’s a great time to remember that we are truly in this together, just as Jesus proved on Easter morning; the brightness of light after the darkest of days.

Happy Easter, everyone!
