Keep it REAL This Holiday Season [SPONSORED]

christmas treeWith the kind of year we’ve had, I think it is safe to say that creating a holiday season experience that feels “normal” as possible is very important.

December is my favorite time of the year. The magical spirit of Christmas always shows up in my favorite things: twinkling lights coloring the city, warm drinks by a crackling fire, and the smell of a freshly-cut Christmas tree.

Growing up in Oregon, I can remember from a very young age going to the tree farm, picking out the perfect Christmas tree, and my mom cutting it down. Now that I am a mom too, having a REAL tree is extremely important to me. There are a few Christmas Tree farms around, but not many. So, I don’t feel the need to cut one down, but having a real tree in my home is non-negotiable.

I promise you that having a real Christmas Tree in your home this holiday season will make all the difference.

Don’t believe me? Read on!

Here are my TOP FIVE reasons to “Keep it Real” this holiday season:

1. MEMORIES THAT LAST A LIFETIME

Nothing says Christmas like the intoxicating smell of a fresh tree. One whiff alone makes me feel like a kid again.

One year, I didn’t realize I needed to consistently water my tree, so my black thumb really showed that year.  It’s a funny story to share with family and friends during the holidays and it never gets old.

2. IT’S BETTER FOR THE PLANET

All Christmas trees are recyclable and biodegradable. After the holiday season, most trees are reused for mulch and bird feeders.

That’s not all; Christmas trees were made to be harvested and farmers plant new ones in their place every year.

3. SUPPORTING LOCAL FARMERS

This pandemic has been challenging for so many people, and that probably includes our local farmers and businesses. They spend the majority of their year caring for and harvesting the trees for this upcoming season.

Let’s do what we can to support our valuable seasonal workers.

4. TRADITION

I hate to say “kids these days”, but really—kids these days have it easy. You can have just about any and everything delivered (even a Christmas Tree!)

But as I mentioned earlier, I vividly remember the tradition of cutting down our Christmas Tree each year and even though as I got older, I became “too cool” for just a moment. I am now creating that same tradition for my family in my own way. Tradition has value to me. So does doing a few things the “old-fashioned” way.

5. THE AMAZING SMELL

You can’t replicate the smell of a freshly-cut Christmas tree. No potpourri, candle or essential oil can recreate it. The sense of smell is closely linked to memory. Your tree in your home, paired with laughs, great food, and family, will connect that smell with poignant memories.
