Celebrate Spring at Carlsbad Flower Fields

0

Spring is in the Air!  One of the highlights to celebrate in San Diego is the Carlsbad Flower Fields.  With over 50 acres of the Tecolote® Giant Ranunculus which is a member of the buttercup family in a variety of colors and five acres is used for other specialty flowers, this destination is all about spring beauty.

The Carlsbad Flower Fields is one of our favorite family activities and this year they have added even more fun for kids and adults.

Carlsbad Flower FieldsTake A Tour on The Wagon Ride

Start the day with an open-air wagon ride through The Flower Fields.  The John Deere tractors pull the wagons throughout the fields with options to hop off and enjoy photo ops and then hop back on to see more of the fields.  We found it was the perfect start to our day!

The wagon ride has an audio commentary of the history of the fields and makes for a great learning experience for older kids and adults.

Photo Opportunities in The Fields

The fields have so many opportunities for amazing photos with friends and families.  There are benches, tractors, huge Adirondacks, and flowers for the perfect backdrop.  When I say huge Adirondacks I really mean huge a whole family can hop up and fit in for the perfect Spring picture.

We took a ton of stunning photos and are using them for Mother’s Day gifts this year.  There is nothing like a beautiful photo in nature.

Just keep in mind not to step over the green tape surrounding the fields.  The flowers are delicate and safety for both people and flowers is necessary.

Mine for Gemstones

The Carlsbad Mining Company lets kids use the miner’s old method of pouring a bucket of sand into a box and sluicing through the water.  Each bucket contains gemstones for kids to find.  Honestly, I had to try it as well!  The fee is $4 per guest however, kids who complete the passport can take one dollar off.

Other Attractions at the Carlsbad Flower Fields

There are many fun attractions for everyone in the family to enjoy.  Santa’s Playground has playhouses, huge mushrooms, and slides for kids to run around and get some energy out.

The sweet pea maze from the outside looks easy ad yet once you get in it tasks some time to weave your way out.  We had a blast running around in it and trying to figure out the way.

The poinsettia display is a must-see.  The 1,500 square foot greenhouse is filled with rare and unusual varieties.  You learn all the history about poinsettia which in fact is the best-selling potted plant.

Make sure to walk over or take the wagon ride to the end and see the American Flag flower display.  It is stunning!

Stop at the Strawberry Shack

You have to stop at the Strawberry Shack of the Carlsbad Flower Fields!  All of the treats are made with locally sourced strawberries.  Choose from sundaes, strawberry shortcakes, shakes, dole whips, and chocolate-covered strawberries.  We enjoyed a strawberry dole whip with sprinkles and the chocolate-covered strawberries.

The Carlsbad Flower Fields is the perfect way to spend a day and enjoy nature at its finest.  Purchase tickets online from now until May 8th.
