New Immersive Exhibits at the San Diego Zoo

0

On June 1st, the San Diego Zoo opened two brand-new immersive exhibits: The Kenneth C. Griffin Komodo Kingdom and the William E. Cole Family Hummingbird Habitat. These new experiences can be found across from the Front Street Skyfari station, next to the reptile house. Each exhibit offers new and unique views of the animals. These new offerings are now part of my must-do list while visiting the zoo.

The Komodo dragons have always been one of my favorite animals and it’s great to see their habitat get an update. And what an update it is. The exhibit has three different sections that showcase the beach, woodland, and mountain habitats from the Komodo’s native Indonesia. You might even get to see the Komodo taking a relaxing dip in the pool. The exhibit is inhabited by two Komodo dragons, a male named Satu and a female named Ratu. The new exhibit also teaches visitors about the challenges the Komodo dragon faces and what is being done to help save them.

Once you’re finished visiting the Komodo Dragons you can head across the path to the new hummingbird exhibit. Step through the doors into a free-flight bird experience. Here you can watch hummingbirds, as well as other bird species, zip through the air around you. Find a spot on a bench and stay awhile to truly take in the atmosphere. Sometimes the longer you look, the more you see. Of course, the exhibit also includes opportunities to learn about these amazing pollinators and how you can help them right from your own backyard.

Both of these new exhibits are extremely well done and offer great new experiences for zoo visitors. Make sure to add them to your to do list for your next zoo visit, you won’t regret it.
