San Diego Mediation Divorce and Family Law’s Chief Peacekeeper, Scott Levin, is pleased to announce that the $1,000 Child of Divorce Scholarship will be awarded in July in support of National Child-Centered Divorce Month to a student studying law.

Every year in July, National Child-Centered Divorce Month is observed to bring awareness to the ideal and most effective ways parents can transition through a divorce, honoring their children’s mental health and wellbeing. 

Chief Peacekeeper, Scott Levin, knows how valuable mediation is during a divorce, which is why he as made the shift to focusing his practice only on mediation. Regardless of the process or outcome of a divorce, it can heavily impact children when big decisions are made that affect their lives. Which is why he has created the $1,000 Child of Divorce Scholarship.

This scholarship is for a current or incoming law student who has demonstrated a high degree of determination and perseverance despite the hurdles they may have encountered earlier in life due to parental divorce or estrangement This scholarship is available to students presently enrolled in a program of study at an undergraduate or graduate institution located within the United States. 

Candidates should have the ability to articulate the ways in which they were able to overcome personal difficulties resulting from divorce within the family while also maintaining a strong commitment to bettering the world around them.

Interested candidates are required to provide evidence of good standing from their current educational institution and submit proof of a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.0.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current or incoming law student at an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Be at least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen.
  • Be able to show proof of academic achievement with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0. 
Requirements

Applicants must submit the following by July 1 at 11:59PM:

  • Submitted online scholarship application.
  • Essay totaling 750 words in length that explains an experience or scenario related to parental divorce or family circumstance which was particularly difficult, but which the student was able to overcome in order to reach a greater goal.
  • Updated transcript from candidate’s current school; freshmen may submit unofficial documentation from their most recent institution attended.
Rules

Applicants must abide by the following contest rules:

  • Winners will provide personal information as needed to the San Diego Mediation Divorce and Family Law office where appropriate.
  • Any taxes on scholarship are the sole responsibility of the contestant.  Recipient is expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.
  • By accepting a scholarship, the applicant will agree to allow the San Diego Mediation Divorce and Family Law to use his or her name, law school, and photograph to announce the scholarship award.
  • Scholarship is to be used exclusively for law school tuition and/or books.
Award

Notification of award and payment will be as follows:

  • Award recipient will be notified of the selection on or around July 31.
  • A check for $1,000 will be made payable to the award recipient to cover tuition and/or books.
Deadline

All application materials must be submitted by the July 1, 11:59 PM deadline in order to be considered for the scholarship.
