Family Safety Day: Hanging with Heroes is a FREE community event happening on Saturday, August 15th from 10am-1pm. The event will take place right outside Dave & Buster’s in Mission Valley!
This annual event brings families and first responders together in a fun, interactive setting. The goal? To equip San Diego families with essential safety tips and resources, all while creating an unforgettable day of hands-on activities, live demos, and heroic memories.
Our mission is to make this event a one-stop hub for essential safety insights and resources that cover everything from CPR techniques to staying safe in the digital world.

California Highway Patrol {Car Seat Safety}
Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself and your passengers in a crash. It is extremely important to make sure all children riding in your car be properly secured before every trip.
Thousands of children are injured or killed every year because their child passenger safety seats are not installed properly. Remember, most collisions occur within a mile of the home – so buckle your child in a safety seat for every trip, no matter how short. If you’re not confident of how to properly secure your child in a safety seat, contact your local CHP Area Office, and ask to speak with a child passenger safety technician. We are thrilled to have the San Diego Fire Department join us at Family Safety Day. The City of San Diego’s Fire-Rescue Department encompasses all fire, emergency medical, lifeguard and emergency management services. This includes 9-1-1 services, fire inspections, permits and community education.
On August 24, 2024, Chief Robert Logan became the 19th fire chief of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department; the third African American to hold this position in the department’s 134-year history. He is a native San Diegan who grew up in Lincoln Park near Fire Station 12, which inspired him to become a firefighter.

Federal Bureau of Investigation {FBI}
The FBI’s investigative programs include counterterrorism, counterintelligence, cyber, public corruption, civil rights, transnational organized crime, white collar crime, violent crime, and weapons of mass destruction. They have created two great resources for families. (1) The Child ID app—the first mobile application created by the FBI—provides a convenient place to electronically store photos and vital information about your children on your smartphone (note: no information is stored or collected by the FBI). (2) The FBI, in partnership with the DEA, created a short documentary focusing on the crisis of prescription drug and opioid abuse. The film, Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict, outlines the dangerous cycle of opioid and prescription drug abuse—how the problem starts, how the addiction takes hold, and how that addiction damages one’s life and body.

Safe Kids San Diego is led by Rady Children’s Hospital and Health Center, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support, and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe. Based on the community’s needs, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops, and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.
