Join us for a vibrant celebration of culture, art, and community at the 29th Annual Día de los Muertos Festival at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. This FREE family-friendly event will bring together traditional and contemporary elements of Día de los Muertos, offering a lively and immersive experience for all ages.
Event Highlights:
ArtWalk: Explore Día de Muertos-inspired art from 10-15 artists, curated by Pako Pablo’s Studio.
Community Interactive Chalk Mural: Leave your mark and contribute to a collaborative mural throughout the evening.
180 Community Altars: Honor loved ones who have passed by visiting or creating your own altar (offered on a first-come, first-served basis) with marigolds, rice, beans, and a cross provided.
Catrina Contest: Show off your best Catrina or Catrín attire for a chance to win fun prizes.
Performances in the Concert Hall (Beginning at 5:00pm): Enjoy live cultural performances, including a headlining show from 7:30pm-9:30pm by La Misa Negra, known for their energetic Afro-Latin rhythms.
DJ Zuni: Dance the night away and keep the party going as DJ Zuni sets the vibe with an eclectic mix of tunes.
Food Vendors: Savor delicious food by El Rey Tacos al Vapor, Tocho Morocho, Mr. Mexicali Roll, and more!
Marigold Bar: Enjoy refreshing drinks, including spirits at the Marigold Bar.
Artisan Market: Browse unique, handcrafted items from local vendors.
Kids’ Crafts & Face Painting: Fun activities for the entire family, including face painting to get into the spirit of the celebration.
In addition to the outdoor festivities, the Museum will be open with free admission, showcasing the current exhibition “Helen and Newton Harrison: California Work.” As part of our Día de los Muertos celebration, a special altar will be on display in Gallery 1.
