15 Date Ideas Under $15 :: San Diego Edition

2

Sometimes, you just need to get out and do something outside of your normal routine. After being with someone for awhile, my best advice is to try to learn something new about each other. It might help to set some off limit discussion topics on your date. Leave out talk about work, money and the kids to help see your significant other from a new angle.

Hopefully these 15 low cost but fun date ideas will help you experience something new too.

1 – Enjoy the coffee shop, flower shop and plant nursery in one setting at Communal Coffee in North Park with some great drinks, good conversation and a lovely atmosphere.

2 – Ride the vintage trolley around downtown to the Fifth Avenue stop and walk to B & Seventh for donuts at Donut Bar. They sell out so plan to take the early trolley. If you want to explore further you can buy a 1-day trolley pass and go as far as Santee or the border.

3 – Stroll down 30th in South Park and check out the unique shops, restaurants, bars and mind blowing mini Target. Once a season there is a walkabout worth visiting.

4 – Play giant outdoor chess at the Mission Valley mall and enjoy a juice, coffee, tea, smoothie or dessert from any of the nearby shops. If you’re into more recent games, Coin-Op in North Park has video games, drinks and happy hour specials from 4-7pm Monday through Friday.

5 – Head out to Law Street in Pacific Beach and walk on the path along the top of the cliff to Baked Bear for some of the best ice cream sandwiches Earth has to offer.

6 – Spend your Taco Tuesday at El Camino in Little Italy for plane spotting and tacos at happy hour pricing.

7 – In north county check out the Encinitas Meditation Garden, walk along the beach and grab something good at Swami’s or a nearby bakery.

8 – In OB there is ice cream, acai bowls and coffee places along Newport Avenue. Get whatever sounds good and walk the pier. Little Lion Café is great spot for coffee if you prefer the views over by Sunset Cliffs.

9 – Grab a sandwich from the deli or a dish from the salad bar at Sprouts in University Heights and walk down Park Blvd then west on Adams to Old Trolley Barn Park where you can picnic and overlook Mission Valley. There is nothing more romantic than a scenic view of In-N-Out.

10 – Bring your favorite board game downtown to the Central Library and pick up a snack from the café for a fun date on any of the non-quiet floors or on the rooftop deck. Not into the library? Modern Times in Point Loma is a fun place for coffee or beer and a board game!

11 –When you have a free afternoon, head to Balboa Park and indulge in some soft serve ice cream from the stand outside of Spanish Village. You can walk and talk through the artist’s village, the beautiful buildings, around the fountains and through the gardens. If you happen to be there on a Tuesday and live in San Diego, there is free admission to a few museums with your ID.

12 – Create a free geocaching account and set out to find ones all over San Diego. If you’ve never heard of it, do yourself a favor and watch this quick video.

13 – Many neighborhoods host concerts in a local park. Friday nights there is free music in El Cajon for their Dinner and A Concert series. During the summer University Heights has different bands play at Old Trolley Barn. Allied Gardens hosts a concert series as well.

14 – Look into opportunities to serve your community by volunteering at a food distribution or shelter.

15 – Every day of the week there is a farmer’s market going on in a different neighborhood. Find one to visit in our guide.

The list could go on and on to include wine tastings, craft breweries, hikes and more. Let us know what your favorite date under $15 is!

  1. Great list! Hitting a new or favorite San Diego Craft Brewery with the hubs for pint or a couple of tasters each would also fall into the $15 date category!

Our favorites are Green Flash, Belching Beaver, Alesmith, and Second Chance, but there are TONS of choices all over the county!
