This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide, rather, we’ve pulled out some highlight events to share with you. Living in San Diego brings you plenty of choices for things to do, but our hope is that this May guide will make your weekend plans a tad easier!
Dine and dance like you’re on the bayou during this year’s Gator by the Bay! Louisiana zydeco, blues, and crawfish festival at Spanish Landing Park May 5th- 8th.
Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo – In the heart of Old Town. May 7th- 8th 2016. Fun events on Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM and Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Grunion Runs – May 7th at 10:00 PM and May 21st at 9:00 PM 2016. Birch Aquarium at Scripps naturalists host grunion runs. 2 hours, $16 per person.
Sunday Brunch at the Del – 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM Sundays. Continuously voted San Diego’s best brunch by San Diego Magazine and The San Diego Union-Tribune readers, The Del’s brunch has long been a local favorite. Please call 619.522.8490 for reservations.
Mother’s Day Celebration at the Flower Fields – May 8th, 2016 from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Visit the spectacular 50 acres of Flower Fields overlooking the Carlsbad, California coastline on this special day – Mother’s Day. One of the best San Diego events in May for mothers. Prices approx. $14 for adults, $7 for children
San Diego Botanic Garden Chocolate Festival – Saturday May 7th, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 230 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas. Join us for a chocolate experience. Enjoy dozens of yummy chocolate tastings, cooking demonstrations, a chocolate fountain and more. This family-friendly San Diego event also features entertainment, food, children’s activities, plant sales, and a variety of Mother’s Day gifts. $1 off coupons at www.sdbgarden.org

May 12thth at noon: Opera on the Concourse. Great Scott: Featuring Great Scott Artists
Southern California Beach Soccer Championship – May 14th to 15th, 2016 at Oceanside Beach. 125 teams compete in this beach soccer tournament featuring beach soccer teams of boys and girls under 8, open, co-ed, and military divisions. Uniforms are “come as you are” on the 30 x 45 yard field in the sand.

Green Flash Concert Series – Wednesday tentative May 18th, 2016 and 4 other dates through the summer. Monthly 21+ summer concert series on the Tide Pool Plaza at Birch Aquarium at Scripps. Season-passes on sale for $160 per person for all five shows (May – September), or $36 per show in advance, $41 at the gate. Shows from 6 – 9 PM.
Hops on the Harbor with AleSmith Brewing Company. Every Friday in May from 7:00-10:00 PM. Join us Friday evenings aboard our new Hops on the Harbor craft beer dinner cruise. Each month, our chef collaborates with a different San Diego brewery to create an exciting gourmet menu, with food that pairs perfectly with the distinctive flavors of each brewer’s beer selections. This two-and-a-half-hour cruise features multiple food stations, picturesque bay views, and of course a full bar with rotating local brews and craft beer flights. The fun continues after dinner with music and dancing.

Breathing in Climate Change – May 21st, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Birch Aquarium Scripps. Celebrate Clean Air Month and learn about climate change, pollution, and your amazing lungs at SEA Days.
North Park Festival of the Arts – Saturday, May 21st, 2016 in North Park University Avenue between 30th & 32nd. Join in the fun at is a free community celebration of art, culture and entertainment for people of all ages. www.northparkfestivalofarts.com/
2016 Fiesta del Sol – May 21st to 22nd, 2016 at Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach. 9 AM until evening, featuring 2 days of music, shopping, children’s activities, international food, beer & wine and fun in Solana Beach. Music starts at 11 AM.
May 24th– I Love Poke Festival at Bali Hai
May 28th- Spend your Saturday strolling East County at the Santee Street Fair & Craft Beer Festival.
Legacy Week at USS Midway – May 28th to 30th 2016 at the USS Midway, San Diego Embarcadero. The USS Midway’s annual Legacy Week celebration for Memorial Day weekend will feature a variety of family activities and special programs.
San Diego Water Park – SeaWorld Aquatica Water Park will open for the summer season. Aquatica Sea World San Diego
