What is a Blog? From One Dad to Another {Special Guest Dad Writer}

2

I am a man. I like to fish, I like to hunt, I like to shoot guns and hike off trail, I pretend I’m good at golf (and if I played more I could play in the PGA minus the rarely occasional shank, slice, and mulligan), and I like to drink strong beer with hops – with soft floral notes and a citrus aroma and a well rounded body!

However, above all else I am a father, a husband, a son, a brother, and a believer.

What I am not, now, is a blogger. I do not blog, even though my BEAUTIFUL wife runs an amazing blog; I honestly haven’t the faintest clue of what one really is. So, for all my fellow men who shave with a knife and still drink water out of the garden hose, lets try and figure this thing out together. I volunteered to do a little digging to find out just what our wives are really doing on that computer, and write it down in my first ever blog post (gulp).

It is after all father’s day, a day where we come together in solidarity for the awesome reason of being a dad.

Now, according to the dictionary of webster a blog or ˈbläg is defined as:

a web site that contains online personal reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer.

Right off the get go I’ve already checked out. Personal reflections just aren’t my thing as I’m sure the same goes for many of you. I’m all about expressing my feelings and reflecting, however, it’s just about things like the fight card for UFC 200, why Joey Bosa is still holding out from the Chargers, and why certain local beers are canned cheaper three states away than at the brewery itself.

Another definition of a blog shows more of a community based approach, also by the merriam-webster dictionary.

A web site on which someone writes about personal opinions, activities, and experiences.

This definition I can understand and relate to better. Guys, you know that awesome new restaurant your wife told you about? Well, she probably read reviews about it on a blog. Oh, and the cheap tickets to “the game” that only people in the know heard about? Yep, you guessed it, she read it in a blog. The discounted craft beer and free fathers day pictures event, yeah it’s that blog thing again.

Us men are masters of our own destiny, rulers of our own worlds, protectors of our families, and yes, whether you like to admit it or not, currently reading a blog (since your wife told you to “get over here and read this blog”).

Who would have ever thunk it? I bet when you were in high school doing your thang you never thought this would pop up ten years down the line did you?

So, here we are at the end, still in solidarity, still men, and learning together- since I literally looked up the definition as I was writing this post. We need to give it up to our ladies now. They sure are some crafty gals.

Yes, the blog they are reading might have the best tips on hair extensions or 20 ways to feel ten years younger, but the majority of what they are reading and writing about are better ways to include family time in this non-stop life we live. Maybe some activities for your children while you work that overtime shift. And when you finally have that much needed family time, your girl will have a pretty good idea on how to maximize your time together from reading A BLOG.

Happy Father’s Day!
