Did you go apple picking this year and have too many apples? Not enough time to eat them all or figure out how to make enough apple cider? Have no fear- here is a DIY project for you!
Maybe you have seen “apple stamping” on pinterest and kept the idea in the back of your mind to do with your kiddos someday. Well let me tell you what- today is your day! I dragged my feet with this craft because I wanted to find something super cute that would last longer then apple stamping on a piece of paper.
I originally wanted to have the kids apple stamp some kitchen towels, but that would render them virtually unusable, so that was pointless. Then I thought that maybe I could have them apple stamp a table runner, but then I knew my OCD about decorating would get extremely off kilter, so I decided to browse Michaels and found these cheap, blank totes.
These little book bags or totes are perfect for my girls to use for their library books, so it was the perfect fit to use our apple stamping project!
To make your own DIY apple totes- the steps are simple
STEP 1)
Get an apple and slice it perfectly down the middle from top to bottom. Be sure not to cut yourself, or the project will come to an end.
STEP 2)
Get an extra apple to snack on while your kids are stamping. Make sure the canvas totes are clear of dog fur, snack crumbs, and anything else that can get in the way of the paint! Lay them flat in front of your kiddos and tell them to sit down nicely and to stop licking their sister.
STEP 3)
Let your children pick out the paint colors for their apple. Using a fabric paint is best. Mine wanted hers to be purple. Munch on your apple and watch as your children do not ask you for help as they happily paint on food.
STEP 4)
But then be prepared to stop munching on your apple and help your children when they realize that they didn’t put enough paint on the apple for the paint to stick to the tote. You will glob extra paint on to show them how it’s done, and they will do it better the second time.
STEP 5)
Lastly, pour yourself a glass of wine, because you did a good job. Your kids will stamp away until they are done. They have made something that they will actually use, they had a good time doing it, and then you can finally say that you successfully made a pinterest craft! Cheers!
