Located in north San Diego county, San Marcos is a hidden gem. It has something for everyone and I recommend you take time to spend at least a full day there. Here are a few suggestions for what to try while you’re in town:
Enjoy the outdoors
If you love the outdoors (I think most of us San Diegans do), then San Marcos is a perfect place for a visit. These are a few of the family friendly parks:
Lakeview Park– With 4 miles of trails and a 5 acre lake this is a beautiful park. Bring your little ones to splash in the fountain.
Double peak– This is the place to take in a sunset that you won’t forget. The 360 view at the top is amazing.
If you enjoy hiking then check out the monthly guided hikes offered through the city. For a hands on, educational experience visit Jacks Pond Nature Center.
Where to eat
Decoy– This restaurant opened in 2016 and has been the talk of the town. The downstairs patio seating looking onto Lake San Marcos is perfection.
Sublime Ale House– Forget everything you know about mac n’ cheese and head to Sublime to try one of their many varieties.
Better Buzz– For locals who love coffee, Better Buzz is a well known name. If you haven’t been then you’re in for a delicious caffeine fix.
Creamistry– To top your day off, swing by and try a fun ice cream experience. You’ll love customizing your liquid nitrogen treat.
Family fun
If you’re looking for something to do with your family there are many attractions in San Marcos. Catch a movie at the spacious Regal theater, or head to Eagle lanes for some bowling. Also try:
Pump It Up– A unique indoor inflatable park.
Sky Zone– An indoor trampoline park that’s fun for all ages.
Invasion Laser Tag– Another place to have a birthday party and bonus-they have summer camp here.
No matter how you spend your time in San Marcos you won’t leave disappointed! It’s a lovely town with so much to offer! Tag us in your San Marcos adventures! #discoversanmarcos
