So, what is the MOB??
The MOB Nation (formerly The MOB NW) is an alliance of Mom-Owned Businesses dedicated to empowering and connecting women who balance both motherhood and business.
The MOB launched in the Pacific Northwest in 2012 and has grown to over a dozen chapters and hundreds of members throughout Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Nevada, and California with more chapters to be announced across the country.
The MOB Nation community focuses on cooperation over competition – for the San Diego chapter launch, they are partnering with the Strong as a Mother Summit, the San Diego Moms Blog, and the Mom Made Market San Diego.
Founded in 2012 by Aria Leighty, the MOB Nation offers mom business owners, referred to as MOBs, opportunities to learn from each other, to network in a casual and kid-friendly environment, share information, and pool purchasing power for ads and events.
When she opened her own business, Aria felt out of place.
At first, I wanted to blend in and be more like the business people I was seeing in the community. But I saw so many other women that were hiding their truth. I want to redefine the way women in business are viewed. Especially moms in business – rock your purple hair, tattoos, whatever. You can still be good and professional.
A mother growing a business needs to balance her needs, her family’s needs, and her business needs. She requires a different kind of support and that’s what the MOB Nation offers. We’re excited to bring resources, community, and support to mom business owners in California, Hawaii, Nevada, and beyond.”
All MOB Nation meetups are held at mom-owned businesses to help showcase a mom business owner in the community. Meetups are also come as you, so moms can focus on growing their business and their network. It is a different kind of networking, and one moms appreciate!
With over 300 members in the MOB Alliance, the paid level of the MOB Nation, and nearly 7.500 members in the free Facebook group, mom business owners are able to both get support, and also support other business owners who understand the juggling involved with being a mom and a business owner. The saying “There’s a MOB for that” pops up frequently since there are all types of businesses represented including photographers, contractors, makeup artists, plumbers, direct sales, candy makers, woodworkers, and just about any other business you can name.
You can connect with thousands of MOB business owners by joining the MOB Nation Facebook group!

There’s and MOB app that allows you to find other small business owners that are part of MOB and other small business events in your area! There’s also a blog portion on the website that features small business owners all over the country! This is my favorite part of the website.
