Winter Skincare to Prevent Dryness in San Diego

0
Southern California winters are nothing like anywhere else in the world, but these last few weeks have been a lot colder than usual. Colder weather, even in San Diego, means drier skin, so I thought I’d share a few tips to help combat its effects. Following these four tips at home and elsewhere will do a great deal to fight signs of early aging, painful redness, and other results of chronically dry skin.

Use a Humidifier at Home

This is the time when we usually use our heating systems the most. Heaters dry out the air and end up drying out our skin. A cool mist humidifier will help bring back moisture in the air and help hydrate your skin.

Skip That Long, Hot Shower

I know a hot shower feels amazing especially after being out in the cold but they actually do more harm than good. Hot showers can dry out your skin more and cause cracks in your skin if you don’t moisturize right away. Instead, take a lukewarm shower and be sure to moisturize with a good lotion or cream to lock in that moisture.

Switch Up Your Moisturizer

During the winter, use something a little thicker like a cream or balm. Also, look out for products that contain hyaluronic acid and ceramides which help retain moisture & plump up your skin.

Don’t Forget SPF . . . Ever!

Even on the cloudiest of days, always remember to wear sunscreen. Those harmful UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds. Be sure to use an SPF 30 or higher and reapply every 2 hours.
