Family Safety Day: Hanging With Heroes brought together first responders, safety experts, and the community for an unforgettable experience that went far beyond typical safety demonstrations. Kids climbed into real fire trucks while parents learned life-saving CPR techniques. Police officers answered questions while firefighters showed families what happens inside a smoke-filled room.
This wasn’t just about checking boxes on a safety checklist. It was about creating real connections between the heroes who protect our community every day and the families they serve. The energy was electric, the learning was hands-on, and the impact will last long after the event ended.

On August 24, 2024, Chief Robert Logan became the 19th fire chief of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department; the third African American to hold this position in the department’s 134-year history. He is a native San Diegan who grew up in Lincoln Park near Fire Station 12, which inspired him to become a firefighter.

The FBI’s investigative programs include counterterrorism, counterintelligence, cyber, public corruption, civil rights, transnational organized crime, white collar crime, violent crime, and weapons of mass destruction. They have created two great resources for families. (1) The Child ID app—the first mobile application created by the FBI—provides a convenient place to electronically store photos and vital information about your children on your smartphone (note: no information is stored or collected by the FBI). (2) The FBI, in partnership with the DEA, created a short documentary focusing on the crisis of prescription drug and opioid abuse. The film, Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict, outlines the dangerous cycle of opioid and prescription drug abuse—how the problem starts, how the addiction takes hold, and how that addiction damages one’s life and body.
AMR San Diego
AMR San Diego’s mission is simple: making a difference by caring for people in need. Safe Kids San Diego is led by Rady Children’s Hospital and Health Center, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support, and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe. Based on the community’s needs, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops, and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.

Mission Bay Puppy Rescue
30 years ago, while searching for a rescue dog of our own, we were unexpectedly asked to foster. Our journey began with a family of 10 puppies, and while they played on our front lawn, passersby couldn’t resist their charm. Before we knew it, we were finding loving homes for them right out of our front yard.
We love having puppies and mamas around our home at all times! Dogs are truly humans best friend and we love rescuing and connecting families with their new best friend. What makes this mission warm our heats is seeing the smile on our adoption families faces as they leave our facility with their new rescue pup or mama. We love knowing that one less puppy is on the street and instead cuddled up with their perfect owner.
