San Diego Junior Theatre offers a wide range of one-week (Monday–Friday) summer day camps for students in grades K–12, running June through August. Camps take place from 9 AM–3 PM, with free early drop-off starting at 8:15 AM and optional aftercare from 3–5 PM for an additional fee.
Camp options include Performance Camps (K–8), Musical Theatre Intensives, Acting Academies (grades 1–12), and JT Studio for teens (grades 7–12). Programs are grouped by the grade level students will enter in the fall and are designed for both beginners and experienced performers. Waitlists are available for full sessions, and Junior Theatre is committed to supporting all students, with accommodations available upon request.
Campers are divided into teams based on grade levels. Each team will rotate through
four subjects each day: acting, music, dance, and a theatre-related specialty subject.
A typical day will look like this, with each team starting with a different subject and then
they switch subjects with each time slot:
9:05-10:10am – Acting
10:10-10:25am – Snack Break
10:25-11:25am – Music
11:25-11:55am – Lunch Break
11:55am-12:25pm – Recess
12:25-1:25pm – Dance
1:25-1:40pm – Snack Break
1:40-2:40pm – Specialty

3:00-5:00pm – Optional Aftercare
Types of Summer Camps
Performance Camps (Grades K-8)
K-8th grade students are welcome to join us for fun-filled days rotating through classes in drama, music, dance, and a specialty subject. Specialty subjects vary weekly and may include topics such as improv, stage combat, movement, accents and so on. Whether your child is used to the spotlight or new to the stage, our performance camps have something for everyone!
Students will be grouped according to age/grade level for the coming school year. Our Kinderstar program is identical to performance camp, but geared towards students who are entering Kindergarten in the fall.
Musical Theatre Intensives (Grades 4-6, and 7-12)
These camps are geared towards students who want a faster paced rehearsal and performance experience. Classes will primarily focus on singing and dancing. Auditions may be held at the discretion of the Teaching Artist(s). Groups will present musical numbers based on the theme referenced in the class description.
Acting Academies (Grades 4-6, and 7-12)
These camps are geared towards students who want a faster paced rehearsal and performance experience. Classes will primarily emphasize acting, though other theatrical elements (playwriting, movement, auditioning) may be included. Auditions may be held at the discretion of the Teaching Artist(s). Groups will present adaptations based on the theme referenced in the class description.
JT Studio (Grades 7-12)
JT Studio programs are fast-paced, high-energy intensives designed for teens looking to elevate their performance skills. Tailored for grades 7-12, these programs offer a deep dive into performance and technique, challenging students to refine their craft in a professional-style rehearsal environment.
School may be out, but theatre is in! Elementary students are welcome to join us for fun-filled days rotating through classes in drama, music, dance and a specialty subject (improv, stage combat, design, etc). Whether your child is used to the spotlight or new to the stage, Junior Theatre’s camps have something for everyone! Camp days are from 9am-3pm. A detailed informational letter will be sent out the week prior to camps. Students should bring a sack lunch and two snacks.
